UConn head coach Dan Hurley has come out as one of the winners of the transfer portal in the Big East, picking up three guards to boost the depth of the Huskies’ backcourt.
UCONN TRANSFER ADDITIONS:
TRISTEN NEWTON, EAST CAROLINA
17.7 PTS / 4.8 REB / 5.0 AST / 1.4 STL
NAHIEM ALLEYNE, VIRGINIA TECH
9.6 PTS / 2.8 REB / 1.5 AST / 37% 3FG
HASSAN DIARRA, TEXAS A&M
6.8 PTS / 1.8 REB / 1.4 AST
With RJ Cole and Tyrese Martin both entering their names into the 2022 NBA draft, Hurley needed to make a splash in the portal when it came to guards. Newton and Alleyne have the talent to leap right into the starting lineup, taking Cole and Martin’s place in the lineup. Newton was on the All-AAC Second Team this past season while Alleyne started 36 games for the Hokies. Diarra can come off the bench and gave Connecticut some needed guard depth off the bench.
Hurley has set up UConn to be competitive once again for the 2022-23 season.
TPR’S PROJECTED LINEUP FOR UCONN:

JORDAN HAWKINS, G
TRISTEN NEWTON, G
