Donald Carey Heads Home to Maryland for Final Season

On Friday, Maryland gained the commitment of Georgetown transfer and Maryland native Donald Carey, a career 1,000-point scorer in 115 games at the collegiate level. Carey chose the Terrapins over the Clemson Tigers.

Carey, whose career has also featured stops at Mount Saint Mary’s and Siena, spent three years under Patrick Ewing before entering the portal last month. The 6-foot-5 guard notched the best season of his career in 2022, averaging 13.5 points and 4.4 rebounds, both career-highs. The future Terrapin is a consistent scorer at all levels, shooting 38.8 percent from three-point range and 91 percent from the charity stripe.

First-year head coach Kevin Willard has now added two dynamic guards from the portal, as Carey joins Charlotte transfer Jahmir Young in the backcourt.
