Former LSU and Missouri Guard Xavier Pinson joins New Mexico State

On Wednesday afternoon, former LSU and Missouri guard Xavier Pinson announced his commitment to New Mexico State and first-year Aggies head coach Greg Heiar ahead of the 2022-23 college basketball season.

Pinson had originally cut his final list to just two schools but reopened his commitment in late April and by early May had again cut his final list this time to three teams which included Mississippi State, Georgia Tech, and New Mexico State.

At 6-foot-2, Pinson spent three seasons at Missouri averaging 10.4 PPG, 2.7 RPG, and 2.7 APG before moving cross-conference for his senior season with LSU where the Chicago native would prove somewhat less productive averaging 9.8 PPG, 2.4 RPG, and 4.8 APG.

Joining New Mexico State, Pinson will leave the SEC for just the first time in his collegiate career to team up with fellow incoming Aggies transfers DaJuan Gordon who alongside the veteran Pinson, already appears to be one of the best backcourt duos in the WAC for next year.

Pinson; a 1,000+ point scorer for his career, brings to the Aggies a versatile guard who can fight at the rim and run the floor with the ability to beat defenders one-on-one or create opportunities for teammates and get them the ball.

It’s been a huge offseason for the new man in charge in Heiar with several big transfer additions including Gordon, JUCO POY Deshawndre Washington, junior-college 3-point leader Kyle Feit, and now Pinson, who seems the final piece of the puzzle to a successful year for New Mexico State.
