Matthew Mayer

According to Stadium’s Jeff Goodman, Baylor transfer and 2021 National Champion Matthew Mayer is down to four finalists: North Carolina, Illinois, Memphis, and Texas Tech.

Mayer, who entered the transfer portal earlier this month, removed his name from the NBA Draft on Sunday. The Austin, Texas native participated in the NBA Combine in Chicago prior to withdrawing and returning to the collegiate ranks.

The 6-foot-9 senior spent four seasons under Scott Drew at Baylor, entering the starting lineup this past season. Mayer recorded career-highs in points and assists, averaging 9.8 points and 5.0 rebounds for the Bears.

A former four-star recruit, Mayer was a key contributor for Baylor during their 2021 National Championship run. In 30 games off the bench, the then junior tallied 8.1 points, connecting on 48.9 percent of shots from the field and 39.5 percent from three-point range.

Mayer will have one year of eligibility remaining, providing experience and an instant impact on both ends of the floor.
