On Friday, Brad Underwood and Illinois made a splash in the transfer portal, landing former National Champion Matthew Mayer, who spend the first four years of his college career at Baylor.
Mayer, a 6-foot-9 Austin, Texas native, played at least 30 games in each of the last four seasons, and increased his scoring average each year. This past season for the Bears, he put up a career high 9.8 points and five rebounds per contest. In this year’s NCAA Tournament, Mayer scored 32 points and grabbed nine rebounds total across two games, one win over Norfolk State and a second-round loss to North Carolina.
