On Friday afternoon, Iowa State transfer Tyrese Hunter committed to Texas, per his social media accounts. Texas head coach Chris Beard and his coaching staff have landed the 2021-22 Big 12 Rookie of the Year.

Hunter picked Texas over Kansas, Gonzaga, Tennessee, Louisville and Purdue.

“Longhorn nation let’s work,” Hunter wrote on Twitter.

During his one season at Ames, Hunter averaged 11.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 4.9 assists in 35 starts. Hunter was a member of the 2021-22 Big 12 All-Freshman team and was crowned the Big 12 Rookie of the Year.

“At 6-foot, Hunter is known as an athletic playmaker who will blow by defenders in the lane with his quickness and can score at the rim with ease all of which has made him one of the top transfers to enter the portal this offseason,” TPR’s Riley Frain said.

Hunter will join New Mexico State’s Sir’Jabari Rice in Texas’ transfer additions for the 2022-23 season.

TPR’s Projected Texas Lineup:

MARCUS CARR, G

TYRESE HUNTER, G

DILLION MITCHELL, F

TIMMY ALLEN, F

CHRISTIAN BISHOP, F
