Published

on

On Saturday afternoon, former 5-star forward Emoni Bates will leave Memphis and enter the transfer portal. Bates was ranked the No. 5 player in the Class of 2022, according to 247 Sports.

Bates spent one season with Penny Hardaway after de-committing from Michigan State. The Ypsilanti, MI, native reclassified to the 2022 recruiting class, arriving to college one year earlier than anticipated. Bates had his struggles to get used to Division-I speed at first, but averaged 9.7 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists through 18 games. Bates shot 39 percent for the Tigers.

Memphis loses their second player to the transfer portal on Saturday, as Tyler Harris was asked to put his name in and leave the program.

Bates has three years of eligibility left, but only has one more year until he is eligible for the NBA draft.
