The transfer portal is heating up again so here are a few nuggets as we chase the latest.
—WR Ricky Pearsall from Arizona State will visit Florida this weekend and Auburn after that perhaps the following weekend. He has other teams in mind as well but hasn’t set any other visits and it could very well come down to these two. Notre Dame and Oregon could be in the mix for a visit if he gets past these first two however.
—DE Ochaun Mathis decides on Saturday between Texas and Nebraska and it’s 50/50 last I heard. While his former coach Gary Patterson is an analyst at Texas he’s not an on field coach and the Huskers have presented a great NIL opportunity. However, we all know the Longhorns can do the same and they could amp up efforts in the next day or say. If I had to guess it would be Texas but it’s close.
—Darrell Jackson to Miami is a huge deal now that the ‘Canes have Akheem Mesidor from West Virginia as well. The defensive line was a bit of a question mark before these transfers but now it could be a strength. And even better for Mario Cristobal and company? They beat Florida head to head for Jackson and cut off his visit to Tennessee. Cristobal will recruit like an SEC coach.
—Nebraska transfer DL Casey Rogers had a great visit to USC and that could be his new home but he’s focusing on school this week. Other programs in the mix? Auburn, Arkansas, Washington, Texas Tech, TCU and Louisville. He’s from New York so clearly he won’t land local the second time around either.
—Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin has been hinting at a transfer coming and I think it’s likely UCF WR Jaylon Robinson who had a great visit this past weekend.
—Arkansas State DT Terry Hampton received a big offer from Arkansas, his home state school, this week as the Razorbacks compete with Missouri, Houston and Auburn. Right now Arkansas has the edge I’m hearing.
—Ohio State transfer DB Andre Turrentine has Tennessee, Kansas and Oregon all over him early after entering this week but he hails from Nashville so keep an eye on the Vols here.
—Arkansas transfer DL Dorian Gerald will visit Georgia Tech next weekend and then Arizona State and Kansas after that if he doesn’t commit.
