Louisiana transfer Theo Akwuba will announce his new college destination on Monday. The 6-foot-11 forward has narrowed his list down to Ole Miss and Iowa after entering the portal on April 18. Awkuba has taken official visits to both schools after cutting his original list down from five schools to two.
The Montgomery, AL native averaged 9.1 points and 7.9 rebounds per game this season for the Ragin’ Cajuns. Akwuba’s 2.0 blocks per game were good for second in the Sun Belt, as he provided dominant interior defense for Louisiana.
Akwuba’s breakout campaign was in 2020-2021 as he tallied 11.3 PPG and 9.3 RPG after transferring from Portland. He recorded a career-high in minutes per game (27.9) and field-goal percentage (63.5%), also earning Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year honors.
Whether the redshirt junior heads to Iowa City or Oxford, Akwuba will bring a powerful presence on both ends of the floor. His shot-blocking ability and presence in the paint will pay dividends in the Big 10 or SEC, while his effectiveness around the rim and in the pick-and-roll game will improve an offense.
Check back into The Portal Report on Monday to find out where Akwuba is headed for his final year of eligibility.
