Former 5 stars in the transfer portal aren’t that rare, as there have been many ranging from QB Justin Fields to two-time RB transfer Demarckus Bowman. Will the latter finally find success at UCF?
The talented running back, a 5 star out of high school who chose Clemson, recently jumped in the portal from Florida and now has a new home with the UCF Knights.
At Clemson, Bowman had 9 carries for 32 yards at Clemson while at Florida he carried the ball 14 times for 81 yards last season. With Billy Napier as the new coach and with Napier bringing stud running back Montrell Johnson with him from Louisiana, the running back room came under scrutiny and became crowded. Bowman was behind Nay’Quan Wright, Johnson and possible fellow 5 star transfer Lorenzo Lingard.
At UCF, he joins a less talented running back room although Isaiah Bowser is on my Farrell50 at running back and Johnny Richardson is a solid option as well. It’s unclear whether Bowman will be eligible this season or not as this is his second transfer but whether it’s this season or next he has the ability to be a great player at this level. What makes me say this after leaving Clemson because he was homesick and leaving Florida after the depth chart got crowded? He’s a thick legged kid who runs with great leverage and has exceptional vision. Most of what’s happened to derail his career is off field stuff so a lot depends on his ability to focus on football but I feel third time will be the charm.
