Wes Miller Continues to Build Momentum at Cincinnati During Offseason

Wes Miller is one of the most promising head coaches in the country, at age 39. Miller was hired in April 2021 to help Cincinnati’s basketball program reach national relevance once again. So far, the former UNC guard is doing a pretty good job at building momentum and excitement for the Bearcats.

During his second offseason with UC, Miller and his coaching staff have put together a great transfer class.

INCOMING TRANSFERS FOR CINCINNATI:

LANDERS NOLLEY II / MEMPHIS

9.8 PTS / 3.8 REB / 2.9 AST

ROB PHINISEE / INDIANA

4.5 PTS / 2.1 REB / 1.7 AST / 0.8 STL / 2.02 AST-TO RATIO

KALU EZIKPE / OLD DOMINION

11.3 PTS / 7.1 REB / 1.6 AST / 1.1 BLK / 52% FG

Next season, Miller will have himself a deep team to compete in the AAC, bringing in 4-star G Daniel Skillings and 3-stars Josh Reed and Sage Tolentino.

Cincinnati first added Old Dominion transfer Kalu Ezikpe. Ezikpe was brought in to give an inside presence on the offensive end. The Georgia native shot 52 percent from the field for the Monarchs last season. Despite being 6-foot-8, the Bearcats will need Ezikpe to score efficiently down low.

To add to the point guard depth, UC picked up four-year Indiana guard Rob Phinisee. Phinisee played under Archie Miller and Mike Woodson while in Bloomington. Phinisee entered the transfer portal and chose Cincinnati over Butler. The Indiana native can get to the basket and dish it out to a teammate. Phinisee’s turnover-to-assist ratio was 2.02 during his time at Indiana.

Miller and his coaching staff ended their recruitment in the portal by landing Memphis transfer Landers Nolley II. Nolley transferred from Virginia Tech to Memphis in 2020, being one of the highly touted transfers that offseason. Nolley led the Hokies in scoring with 15.5 points as a freshman. Now Nolley will stay in the AAC, pairing up with David DeJulius and Jeremiah Davenport.
