After announcing a transfer to Washington State in early June, Justin Powell has now received a waiver from the NCAA and will be eligible to participate in the 2022/23 season, according to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports.
Powell arrives at Washington State following single seasons at both Auburn and Tennessee in the SEC where he’d averaged 11.7 PPG, 6.1 RPG, and 4.7 APG as a freshman before seeing a significant downturn in production as a sophomore.
However, the Kentucky native has battled injuries throughout his collegiate career including a severe head injury which saw Powell sidelined for the season at Auburn immediately after just 10 games causing him to enter the transfer portal and subsequently struggle for minutes at Tennessee.
Despite the challenges, Powell has become known as one of the nation’s best three-point shooters having managed 38% from three-point range last season and 44% across the ten matchups he appeared in during his freshman year.Â
With Powell now officially receiving his waiver, this gives Washington State head coach Kyle Smith an instant starter for the Cougars who will provide offensive prowess and ball-handling alongside a very talented roster in Pullman ahead next season.
