Former Power Five recruit chooses UMass basketball

On Thursday, Long Island center and transfer Isaac Kante committed to Frank Martin and the UMass Minutemen. Kante, who began his career at Georgia before transfering to Hofstra, spent just one season with the Sharks.

The Brooklyn, NY native made an immediate impact in the Northeast Conference, scoring in double figures for the third consecutive season. Kante recorded 12.0 points and 7.4 rebounds, while shooting 53.6 percent from the floor.

The 6-foot-8 senior was a constant in the lineup at the mid-major level, starting all 87 contests between his three seasons at Hofstra and LIU.

For his career, the rising senior has averaged 10.9 points and 7.5 rebounds, while shooting 58.1 percent from the field.

With former South Carolina coach Frank Martin taking over in Amherst, Kante becomes the sixth portal pledge for the Minutemen.
