Thanks in part to their offseason, the Creighton Blue Jays will be the Big East favorite and a potential preseason top-5 team. Returning players are the primary reason, but looking outside the program has elevated the expectations in Omaha.

Greg McDermott and Creighton have been minimal participants in the transfer portal, bringing in just five recruits since its inception. The Blue Jays, however, have been successful in their portal efforts, adding on impact players.

Adding on a conference Player of the Year and Big 12 transfer has provided McDermott with an elite starting lineup and adequate depth.

CREIGHTON’S TRANSFER PORTAL ADDITIONS:

BAYLOR SCHEIERMAN, SOUTH DAKOTA STATE

16.2 PTS / 7.8 REB / 4.5 AST / 50.8% FG / 46.9% 3FG

FRANCISCO FARABELLO, TCU

4.7 PTS / 2.5 REB / 38.4% 3FG

Baylor Schieierman is one of the best transfer recruits in the country, coming off of a decorated three-year career at South Dakota State. Scheierman is a two-time First Team All-Summit League selection and was named the conference’s Player of the Year this past season. The Hastings, Nebraska native was the only player in Division-I men’s basketball to lead his conference in both rebounds and assists. Scheierman was a finalist for the Lou Henson Award, the honor given to the best mid-major in college basketball. His impact in Omaha will give the Blue Jays national title expectations as they look to advance beyond the Sweet Sixteen for the first time since 1941.

After three seasons in Forth Worth, TCU transfer Francisco Farabello will bring his experience to Creighton. A career 40.2 percent three-point shooter, Farabello adds an impactful shooting presence to a Blue Jays roster that shot 30.8 percent from beyond the arc last season. The Argentina native appeared in 73 games with the Horned Frogs. recording 8 starts. With Doug McDermott’s squad returning the Big East Defensive and Freshman Players of the Year, Farabello will likely play a substantial role as a reserve.
