After a successful three seasons at Boise State leading the Broncos to the 2022 NCAA Tournament, former top-100 prospect Emmanuel Akot announced he would use his graduate year and transfer for a third time committing to join a high-flying Western Kentucky squad for the 2022/23 season.
While initially, the 2022 All-MWC selection had opted to sign with Memphis, he would officially announce his intentions to decommit from Penny Hardaway’s program in late August and quickly enrolled under Rick Stansbury at Western Kentucky.
Akot arrives in Bowling Green having averaged 10.6 PPG, 3.1 RPG, and 2.8 APG last season starting 29 of 31 games for Boise State. He’ll join one of the most exciting non-power conference rosters in the nation which includes star guard Dayvion McKnight, the nation’s leading shot blocker in Jamarion Sharp, a former top-100 prospect Jairus Hamilton, and several power-5 transfers.
Despite being listed at 6-foot-8, what Akot adds to this stacked Hilltoppers roster is a versatile positional piece who can handle the ball, score with efficiency, and all while providing defensive mismatches across the court. Not only that, but Akot also brings both power-5 and NCAA Tournament experience himself having spent his first two seasons at Arizona under Sean Miller and as previously mentioned helped Boise State back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2015.
As one of three Preseason All-Conference selections for Western Kentucky, Akot was a major addition to the program and paired with some very exciting talent already on the roster, this could be the piece that sees the Hilltoppers once again top Conference USA and return to the NCAA Tournament.
