Players to Watch: Red River Rivalry Edition

Published

on

With Week 6 of the College Football season being headlined by the Red River Rivalry, there’s undoubtedly going to be some exciting players to watch in this heated contest.

So, let’s breakdown a pair of transfer that could have game changing performances at the Cotton Bowl this Saturday:

Adonai Mitchell – WR, Texas

This former Georgia receiver helped the Longhorns to a 40-14 win over Kansas last Saturday with a season-high performance, managing 10 receptions for 141 yards and a touchdown.

Through the team’s first five games, Mitchell has been a massive addition for Texas and even caught two touchdowns on just three receptions in a hard fought 32-24 win against No. 11 Alabama earlier this season.

He’s already established himself as one of Ewers’ top targets with Mitchell pulling in 22 total receptions for 321 receiving yards, and a team leading four touchdowns since his arrival in Austin.

Look for Mitchell to play a huge role in helping this Longhorns offense to move down the field, and be a consistent redzone threat throughout what should be a rivalry battle.

Brenen Thompson – WR, Oklahoma

Thompson – who spent his freshman season at Texas – is undoubtedly one of the top Sooner transfers to arrive in Norman this offseason.

The former top-100 prospect and four-star recruit was quietly a decent performer in his return from injury this past Saturday, with Oklahoma defeating Iowa State 50-20 and Thompson going for a career-high two receptions and 62 receiving yards.

The young prospect has yet to score a TD in his college career, but with receptions and yards split fairly evenly amongst the Sooners receivers corps, Thompson will have an opportunity to breakout this week and pester his former team.

With Thompson now fully healthy, watch for his electric speed and fantastic hands to help make a name for the 5-foot-9 receiver on Saturday against the Longhorns.
