Ranking the Top 10 Transfer Portal Additions Through Week Five

The transfer portal has provided college football teams with program-changing talent for the past several years.

That is certainly true this year, as many teams have burst onto the scene with early-season victories on the backs of transfer prospects. Let’s take a look at the top ten producers from the portal through five weeks, according to TPR’s transfer fantasy points metric.

1. RAY DAVIS – KENTUCKY

Davis, a Vanderbilt transfer, has exploded early this year for the Wildcats, rushing all over the field and ranking first overall in TPR’s transfer fantasy points with 145.5. Davis already has 594 rushing yards, 8 rushing touchdowns, 146 receiving yards, and three receiving touchdowns.

2. SHEDEUR SANDERS – COLORADO

The Buffs have been the story of the season, and they wouldn’t be in the spotlight nearly as much if it weren’t for the outstanding performance by Deion Sanders’ son at QB.

Shedeur ranks second in TPR fantasy points with 136.9, and has already racked up some impressive stats through five matchups: 1,781 passing yards, 15 touchdowns, 74.4% completions, 2 rushing touchdowns.

3. HAYNES KING – GEORGIA TECH

The former Texas A&M signal caller has earned 136 fantasy points so far this year, completing 64.32% of his pass attempts, throwing for 1,480 yards and 15 touchdowns, and rushing for 176 yards and a TD.

4. THOMAS CASTELLANOS – BOSTON COLLEGE

Another ACC quarterback in the top ten is Castellanos, who came to BC from UCF. The Georgia native has completed 58.78% of his pass attempts, thrown for 1,092 yards, and has ten touchdowns through the air. Castellanos has also been a huge threat with his legs, rushing for 358 yards and three touchdowns already this year.

5. EMORY JONES – CINCINNATI

Jones, a former ASU QB, has thrown for 1,226 yards and ten touchdowns already this. season. He has also burned opponents with his legs, rushing for 280 yards and three TDs so far. 

6. SAM HARTMAN – NOTRE DAME

Hartman came into the season as TPR’s No. 1 overall transfer, joining Notre Dame after an historic career at Wake Forest. He has lived up to the hype as the leader of the Fighting Irish, throwing for 1,458 yards and 14 touchdowns so far this year. Hartman also has two rushing touchdowns.

7. BLAKE WATSON – MEMPHIS

Watson came into the season as TPR’s No. 3 overall transfer, and has provided a huge boost for the Tigers since arriving. The former Old Dominion running back has ran for 455 yards and six touchdowns, while also stacking up 26 receptions for 233 yards and a touchdown.

8. DONOVAN SMITH – HOUSTON

Smith, a former Texas Tech Red Raider, has completed 64% of his passes so far while at Houston, throwing for 1,347 yards and nine touchdowns. He has also gained 163 yards on the ground and has scored three rushing TDs.

9. ISMAIL MAHDI – TEXAS STATE

Simply put, Mahdi has been dominant since arriving at Texas State. The former Houston Christian back has earned 488 yards on the ground with seven rushing touchdowns. In addition, he has a 100-yard kickoff return touchdown and has caught one touchdown pass as well.

10. TJ FINLEY- TEXAS STATE

The former Auburn QB joins his running back in the top ten with a solid 113 fantasy points through five games. Finley has thrown for 1,393 yards and ten touchdowns so far, while also scoring three rushing touchdowns.

Following the top ten, transfer prospects DJ Uiagalelei, Davis Brin, Jack Plummer, Jordan McCloud, JB Brown, Kedon Slovis, JT Daniels, and others have also been having strong seasons and would be up next in our rankings by TPR fantasy points scored.
