5 Transfer Stars to Watch this Weekend

In a slate headlined by a top 15 Pac-12 showdown in Salt Lake City, plenty of transfer talent are ready to put on a show. Here are TPR’s top five transfers to watch this weekend.

  • Bucky Irving Oregon RB

One of the most slept on players in the nation, Minnesota transfer Mar’Keise “Bucky” Irving is a top three back in the nation for the Ducks. In an offense that is incredibly balanced, Bucky still produces monster numbers, running for 649 yards and 7 touchdowns on a whopping 7.5 yards per carry.

College Gameday heads to Salt Lake City this weekend for the clash between Oregon and the Utah Utes. The Ducks pride themselves on being the toughest team on the field, and Bucky embodies that ideal. The running back who never goes down on first contact will have to be on top of his game Saturday, as the Utes’ biggest strength may be their ferocious defensive line. Expect an epic battle in the trenches with Bucky leading the way at 3:30 ET on FOX.

  • Sam Wiglusz Ohio WR

Ohio native Sam Wiglusz started his career with the Buckeyes. After announcing his decision to transfer following the 2021 season, Wiglusz decided to stay in state and head to the Ohio Bobcats. Wiglusz exploded in his first year with the Cats going for 877 yards and 11 touchdowns in his first season with Ohio who finished 10-4.

Heading into a huge MAC-East matchup with Miami (OH) in which both teams enter 6-2, first place in the division is on the line. Wiglusz will look to show out in front of a home crowd against an in-state rival and help lead the Cats one step closer to the MAC championship game.

  • Tate Hallock Western Michigan S

Starting his career at Michigan State, Tate Hallock received no opportunity to shine. In extremely limited snaps in his two seasons playing for the Spartans, Hallock tallied just 5 tackles. In his first 8 games with the Broncos, Hallock wreaked havoc racking up 57 tackles. Against Toledo, Hallock was extremely disruptive, forcing 3 turnovers, two interceptions and a forced fumble.

Despite both Eastern and Western Michigan starting the season slow, the stakes for this game are still high for these teams. The battle for the Michigan MAC trophy is a heated one every year, and Hallock will look to be a force in the secondary for the Broncos who are in desperate need of a road win.

  • Davis Brin Georgia Southern QB

A battle between two top Sun Belt teams will take center stage Thursday night at 7:30 ET on ESPN2. Transfer QBs Darren Grainger and Davis Brin lead their teams into an interstate battle under the lights. Brin started his career with Tulsa, throwing for 3,254 and 18 touchdowns in his best season as the starter.

Now he leads his team into battle against rival Georgia State. Brin has thrown for 2,122 yards and 14 touchdowns on the season, however also 11 picks. If Brin can control the ball, the Tulsa transfer has a good chance at leading the Eagles to a huge conference win.

  • JB Brown Kansas LB

Arkansas native JB Brown exploded for the Jayhawks in a tough loss at Oklahoma State, tallying nine tackles in the incredible performance. Brown is an athletic freak and can get off the edge in a hurry.

Kansas has a huge home game against Oklahoma this weekend and getting pressure on Dillon Gabriel will be crucial. The UCF transfer has struggled under pressure, but when given time has been able to pick defenses apart. Brown and the Jayhawks battle the Sooners at noon ET on FOX.
