Over 1,800 players entered the basketball transfer portal last offseason, leading to lots of new faces at new programs in 2023-24 season.
Here’s one transfer group that I am specifically looking forward to watching this year.
GEORGIA BULLDOGS
Georgia is an intriguing team for me because of its veteran Division One transfers and its quiet addition of one of the best players in D2 basketball last year.
Thomasson is a 6-foot-4 graduate transfer who shined for Niagara last season, averaging 19.5 points per game (No. 34 in country). He ranks as our No. 10 impact transfer in the SEC.
Melendez is a 6-foot-7 junior guard out of Puerto Rico who last played for the Illini. There, he averaged 6 points and 3.9 rebounds per game and started 18 games.
Tchewa is a 7-foot, 275-pound graduate transfer from Cameroon who averaged 11.1 points and 8.6 boards per game.
DeLoach is a 6-foot-9 junior forward who comes back home to Georgia to play for the ‘Dawgs out of the portal. DeLoach earned Third Team All-Atlantic 10, starting 32 games and averaging 9.7 points per contest.
RJ SUNAHARA – NOVA SOUTHEASTERN (D2)
Sunahara is a 6-foot-8, 205-pound guard who put up stellar numbers last year in D2: 18.8 PPG, 5.4 RPG, 2.5 APG.
He injured his leg a few days back in an exhibition, so keep an eye on his status. But if the Bulldogs can get him back for the regular season, he will be one to watch in Athens.
Returning former transfers Justin Hill (Longwood) and Jabri Abdur-Rahim (Virginia) who both played in all 32 games a season ago for the Bulldogs.
