Recruiting Notebook: College Football Transfer Portal is Off and Running

With College Football’s Transfer Portal season now underway, here’s our first rendition of the Recruiting Notebook to track interest and offers from TPR’s top portal entries/recruits around the country.

Matthew Sluka, QB – Holy Cross

The 2023 Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year entered the transfer portal in late November and according to The Portal Report, has already been receiving a slew of interest. Including from several power-5 and top-tier programs such as Arkansas, Baylor, Pitt, Texas A&M, and more, all clamoring after one of the FCS’ top quarterbacks.

 

Justice Ellison, RB – Wake Forest

After scoring double-digit touchdowns for the first-time in his career this past season, the athletic back has been receiving power-5 interest from all around the country and looks primed for a move away from the ACC.

 

Teagan Wilk, DB – East Carolina

Having battled some injuries this past season, the Berwick, PA native hit the portal last week and has already been receiving major interest on the success of his 2022-23 campaign. Between almost 100 career tackles, eight passes defended, two interceptions, and three forced fumbles, Wilk has already heard from schools such as Iowa State, Maryland, Houston, and Ole Miss.

 

Dae’Quan Wright, TE – Virginia Tech

Finishing third on the Hookies with a career-high 366 receiving yards this past season, Wright is one of the top tight end portal entries heading into the early offseason. The interest has already begun to pile up from programs such as Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and Colorado.

 

Jalen Farmer, OL – Florida

A former top-100 prospect and top-35 offensive line recruit, Farmer didn’t see much playing time across two years in Gainesville but tells TPR he’s already had a few top program’s calling him up.

 

Justin Wodtly, DE – Cincinnati

Impressing in the Bearcats first season of Big 12 contention, Wodtly has several in-conference program’s reaching out to try and swipe his signature including TCU, Kansas State, and Iowa State.

 

Samuel Okunlola, DL – Pitt

The second-year Panther defender put together a career-best 18 tackles and five sacks this past season, and has been picking up interest from some of the nation’s top programs for his efforts.

 

Jaidyn Denis, DB – Elon

The former Phoenix defensive back looks ready for a step up to the FBS level with 40 total tackles which included a 10 tackle performance at Gardner-Webb, eight defended passes, and three interceptions this past season. Denis told TPR that program’s such as UCLA, Virginia, Rutgers, and Houston were quick to make contact once he entered the portal.
