After sending a pair of programs to the Elite Eight at the 2024 NCAA Tournament, the SEC is expanding to 16 teams for the 2024/25 season with the additions of Texas and Oklahoma from the Big 12 Conference.

On the basketball front, it remains one of the most competitive conferences in the country and only grows with the arrival of two consistent NCAA Tournament contenders in the Longhorns and Sooners.

Additionally, it’s become one of the premier conferences for transfer talent between rising mid-major stars looking for a shot in the power-5 to former top-100 prospects who can make an impact.

With over 85 transfers joining the conference via the portal this offseason, here’s my prediction ON who will be the top transfer recruit for each SEC program during the 2024/25 college basketball campaign.

Alabama: Cliff Omoruyi (Rutgers)

A former top-100 prospect who spent the last three seasons as a starter in the Big Ten, Omoruyi brings the Crimson Tide veteran leadership, elite shot blocker and high level rebounding, all while scoring at a 50% clip.

While Alabama head coach Nate Oats looks to push the tempo and leverage his roster’s three-point shooting, Omoruyi is the ideal piece to clean up and thrive in all the open space inside.

Arkansas: Johnell Davis (FAU)

After leading the Owls to a Final Four appearance in 2023 before a second consecutive NCAA Tournament bid in 2024, it’s evident the 2023/24 AAC Player of the Year is ready for the SEC level.

Primarily known for his consistent scoring ability having averaged 18.2 PPG while shooting 48% from the field and 41% from three this past season, Davis will have no problem leading the Arkansas charges under new head coach John Calipari.

Auburn: JP Pegues (Furman)

The Tigers have had several chaotic playmakers at the point guard position throughout Bruce Pearl’s tenure as head coach. In Pegues, Auburn is getting quite the opposite; a well-disciplined ball handler with a high basketball IQ who can score the ball effectively.

Listed at 6-foot-1, he’s a bit undersized for the SEC but Pegues is a proven leader and a highly efficient contributor suggesting he’ll have no issues with a transition up to the high-major ranks.

Florida: Sam Alexis (Chattanooga)

As Gators graduate transfer Tyrese Samuel runs out his eligibility and departs for the pros, Florida head coach Todd Golden has secured an ideal replacement piece with Alexis’ acquisition from Chattanooga.

Averaging 10.8 PPG, 9.1 RPG and 2.1 BKPG with nine double-doubles last season, the 6-foot-9 Alexis is one of the best two-way interior players in the country and will provide Florida with elite rebounding and shot blocking.
