Former Davidson standout Michael Jones has announced that he will be heading from the East Coast all the way out West to join Stanford in the Pac-12. This marks a huge get for the Cardinals and head coach Jerod Haase as the program struggles to recruit transfers due to strict academic guidelines with Jones marking Stanford’s first incoming transfer since 2009 and first-ever graduate transfer.
Considered one of the portal’s best sharp-shooters, Jones averaged 11.8 PPG, 3.6 RPG, and 1.9 APG while managing 46% from the field, 42% from three, and 84% from the line last season as the Wildcats earned an NCAA Tournament bid. Jones was also key in Davidson’s 79-78 upset of #10 Alabama, in which the Minnesota native contributed 21 points on 3 of 3 from deep while adding 4 assists.
Despite previously dealing with injuries including missing the entire 2018-19 season, Jones spent two years as a primary starter for the Wildcats and would start all 34 games from the 2021-22 season. A 6-foot-5 guard, Jones beings instant offense and some veteran leadership to a young Stanford squad that could be really talented and competitive in the Pac-12, should former top-100 prospect Harrison Ingram exit the NBA Draft and return to school.
