Butler’s Thad Matta Adds Akron Transfer Ali Ali

On Saturday morning, new Butler head coach Thad Matta added Akron transfer Ali Ali to his roster for next season.

“The Butler way… 🐶,” Ali wrote on Twitter.

Arkansas, Mizzou, USC, Northwestern, Loyola, Virginia, SMU, Georgia, Marquette, Pitt, Ohio State, NC State, Georgia Tech, Florida, Virginia Tech, Saint Louis, Memphis and others reached out to Ali during his time in the transfer portal.

Ali (6-foot-8, 206 pounds) spent three seasons at Akron, becoming an All-MAC team recipient this past season. The Indiana native averaged 13.9 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 34 games, helping lead the Zips to the NCAA Tournament.

Ali will have two years of eligibility at Butler.
