D’Maurian Williams Breaks Down his Commitment to Texas Tech

On Saturday afternoon, Mark Adams’ staff got big news from one of the hottest transfers in the portal.

Gardner-Webb transfer, D’Maurian Williams announced that he would be transferring to Lubbock after his sophomore season. This past season, he averaged 14.5 points per game while shooting 39.3% from three-point range for the Runnin’ Bulldogs.

“Just the relationship I was able to build with the coaching staff in such little time,” Williams told The Portal Report. “Plus, he’s a great coach at a great program. It’s hard to say no to that.”

That’s been a common sentiment through my talks with transfers who are getting interest at Texas Tech. How you just can’t say “no” to what Mark Adams has built at Texas Tech and the way he doesn’t only carry himself but his program.

It was shown on the court this past season as the United Supermarkets Arena was packed for every game and the Red Raiders ran the best defense in the country. Along with that, they win.

Their defense is the calling and of big interest to a lot of players. They see that skillset can make the difference to get you over the hump and play in the NBA. After that, it’s almost immediate buy-in.

It will be nothing new to Williams though, as GWU ran the best defense in the Big South by a long shot. You know, it all starts with the star player, and Williams was ranked as the most significant contributor on KenPom for Tim Craft’s squad last season. He should make an immediate impact for Adams and seems very excited to be a Red Raider.

“They showed huge interest in me by the way they recruited me,” Williams said, “I felt most comfortable with Texas Tech.”
