Mario Cristobal is going to change the way Miami recruits not only in high school but in the transfer portal as well. But landing offensive lineman Jonathan Denis from Oregon was kind of easy.
Denis, a three-star offensive guard out of high school, chose Oregon and Cristobal all the way from Dade County in South Florida. He had offers from Miami, Florida, Florida State, Auburn, Kentucky, Louisville and many others and chose the Ducks sight unseen for Cristobal and offensive line coach Alex Mirabal. So when both headed back to his home of Miami, this became an immediate option.
Denis didn’t play much at Oregon due to injuries but should be cleared by the summer for full contact. He has the ability to play guard and center and the latter could be key down the line for the Canes. As a South Florida kid, he will certainly help the recruiting efforts for Miami as he can tell locals about the experience of going away from home. He was a 3-star recruit out of high school and I have him as a 3-star transfer recruit as well.
