Former EKU Guard Jomaru Brown Transfers to Coastal Carolina

On Wednesday afternoon, former Eastern Kentucky standout Jomaru Brown announced he would be committing to join head coach Cliff Ellis at Coastal Carolina for the 2022-23 college basketball season.

Brown, who told The Portal Report two weeks ago that he would be taking official visits to both Coastal Carolina and Milwaukee before making his decision, brings over four years of experience to the program as a former 2019-20 first-team All-OVC.

For his career, the North Carolina native has averaged 15 PPG, 2.9 RPG, and 2.2 APG on 40% shooting, primarily coming off the bench for Eastern Kentucky outside of his sophomore season where he managed 30 starts.

However, Brown has dealt with injuries in his career and sat out most of 2020-21 following shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum but in spite, he returned to 2021-22 ASUN preseason All-Conference nominations and went on to average 12.2 PPG during the season.

With the Chanticleers losing their two top scorers and guards from last season in Vince Cole to the NBA Draft and Rudi Williams to the portal, Brown will be an instant impact player for Ellis’ roster and should fit well into his plans for the Sun Belt next season.
