Farrell’s Portal Notes: Are These Rumored NIL Numbers Realistic?

Published

on

Let’s talk NIL money.

Call me a cynic but these million dollar offers to players on other teams to entice them to transfer just seems out of whack to me. Having immersed myself in NIL for over a year now, there are millions to be had that’s for sure. But when I hear Jordan Addison getting offered $3 million and a house to transfer to USC and Pitt “matching that offer,” I laugh. And I’m sure Texas WR Xavier Worthy has had some overtures but a seven-figure deal to transfer that he turned down? Come on. When I come across proof of these numbers I’ll believe it but until then I can see companies interested in these players to further their brand (apparel, collectibles, sponsorships, etc) but boosters randomly dialing up million dollar offers to lure kids to their school for one season? We aren’t there yet.

PEARSALL TO THE GATORS?

WR Ricky Pearsall loved his visit to Florida this past weekend and they will be hard to beat. He is setting up Auburn and possibly Oregon, while Notre Dame is out. Look for him to be with the Gators barring a surprise.

JONAH MILLER SETS VISITS + MY PREDICTION

OL/DL Jonah Miller, leaving Oregon, has Arizona set for May 14th and he will follow up at Arizona State right after that. USC is May 18th and Colorado is possible but I think he ends up back in his home state with the Wildcats.

SPENCER LOVELL HAS POWER 5’S WATCHING CLOSELY

Arizona State transfer OL Spencer Lovell will visit Cal this weekend with USC, Tennessee, Washington State, Auburn, Nebraska and others also interested. He’s from Colorado but I’m not sure the Buffs have reached out yet.

LAND: A HOT COMMODITY

FCS LB Isaiah Land from Florida A&M will be a hot commodity in the portal. Last season Land was the 20221 Buck Buchanan Award winner, and led the FCS with 19 sacks (18 solo, 2 assisted) for 121 sack yards. He led the FCS with 25.5 tackles for loss (23 solo, 5 assisted) for 147 TTFL yards. He hails from Grayson HS in Georgia and I expect the Bulldogs to push hard. But so far Texas has shown the most interest followed by Florida State and Auburn. I’ve heard that more than 40 schools have expressed interest so far.
