Who’s Cold: Which Teams Are Struggling to Conquer the Portal?

Published

on

The portal giveth and taketh away. Here are the cold teams in the transfer portal right now. Brrrrr.

  1. Arizona State — Despite landing Emory Jones there are too many legit players leaving including WR Ricky Pearsall, LB Eric Gentry, OL Spencer Lovell and DL Jermayne Lole.
  2. Utah — It’s been odd for Utah with two 2022 signees already in the portal which makes you wonder what’s going on there. This is a talented team with a chance to win the Pac-12 but 10 players have left since April 7th and that could hurt depth.
  3. Pitt — There is no way to make the loss of WR Jordan Addison be anything but a disaster and a momentum killer for the program. I’d like to spin a positive somehow but there’s no way to do it.
  4. Maryland — Darrell Jackson is the latest ultra-talented young player from the Terps to land at another Power Five school. Leading the nation with 27 scholarship portal entries is difficult to throw a positive spin on, so it will be interesting to see if the Terps can right the portal ship in the coming year.

Known as “The Godfather” of recruiting, Farrell joins The Portal Report after a stellar 24-year run with recruiting site Rivals. Farrell has covered football at all three levels, with national TV experience and over 20 years serving as Rivals’ National Recruiting Director.
