It’s not always quarterbacks that make the most impact in the transfer portal as teams like Alabama, Georgia, Cincinnati and others can attest. Here are the most impactful non-QBs for each school starting with the SEC.
Alabama
OL Tyler Steen — You could make a case for RB Jahmyr Gibbs or WR Jermaine Burton here but the need at tackle was a big one and big men are hard to find in the portal. Vanderbilt’s loss is a massive gain for Alabama.
Arkansas
WR Jadon Haselwood — Treylon Burks is gone and a replacement was needed for CJ Jefferson. Enter the former 5 star from Georgia who showed flashes at Oklahoma and has a very high ceiling.
Auburn
WR Koy Moore — I’ve always liked Moore and his upside and with the offense and QB situation a bit of a question mark, playmakers are needed and he can be dynamic.
Florida
OT O’Cyrus Torrence — Following Billy Napier over from Louisiana, Torrence is only one of the best offensive linemen in the country. This is as important a get as you can have for the Gators.
Georgia
None — UGA has zero transfers. That’s right — zero. If you’re great sometimes you don’t need help.
Kentucky
WR Tayvion Robinson — The hype around QB Will Levis is enormous and Wan’Dale Robinson is gone so the Virginia Tech transfer needs to be a go to guy and has that ability.
LSU
S Mekhi Williams-Garner — There is a lot of talent headed to LSU under Brian Kelly but the defensive backfield needs some help and a leader and Williams-Garner is that guy.
Mississippi State
CB Hunter Washington — The offense can put up numbers but the defense needs help on the back end and Washington had great potential coming out of high school. The FSU transfer should be a good fit.
Missouri
LB Ty’Ron Hopper — He’s a very good tackler and playmaker and the Florida transfer has experience and can provide leadership.
Ole Miss
RB Zach Evans — I wanted to pick a defensive player because defense is the issue but Evans is too talented to be left off this list. He’s going to be an instant star.
South Carolina
WR Corey Rucker — The Gamecocks have their QB in Spencer Rattler and they are loaded at TE but the wide receiver room is lacking. Enter Rucker who comes over from Arkansas State and can be dominant.
Tennessee
CB Andre Turrentine — The Ohio State transfer heads back home with a high ceiling, something to prove and a ton of natural ability.
Texas A&M
DL Micaiah Overton — The Aggies have one non-QB transfer and it’s Overton who can help the pass rush from Liberty.
Vanderbilt
LB Kane Patterson — The Nashville native was probably not elite enough for Clemson but he could be an instant impact player back home.
