The Texas Tech Red Raiders play host to the Texas Southern Tigers tonight in Lubbock. There are a ton of exciting transfers in this matchup. The Red Raiders had a very balanced attack Monday night against Northwestern State, therefore no one person stood out. Here are three Red Raiders that could break out tonight against Texas Southern:
Jaylon Tyson
Tyson is the starting 3 guard and saw a good amount of offensive touches Monday night in only 18 minutes of play (he left late in the game with a leg cramp). He scored eight points and collected five boards with two assists.
Tyson’s shooting ability can allow him to have a great night at any point. He was 2/3 from beyond the three-point line and ran the offense very effectively on the wing.
De’Vion Harmon
Harmon runs point for the Red Raiders and had seven points in their win Monday and also chipped in four assists.
Harmon’s ability to get out of double teams and operate the Red Raiders’ press break was something the team sorely missed last season. While I don’t think Harmon will score 20+ points in a game with all the other scoring pieces on the roster, his assist total could climb into the double-digits before too long.
Kerwin Walton
Walton was very impressive coming off the bench for the Red Raiders, putting up nine points and collecting four rebounds, and blocking two shots.
The most impressive part of his performance was not the three-point shooting that he was recruited for but his movement without the ball and his solid defense. If he can add long-range shooting to that performance tonight, the Red Raiders could have another transfer star on their hands.
