Wake Forest star QB Sam Hartman – a former three star prospect from Mount Pleasant, SC – has announced that he plans to enter the transfer portal following a 27-17 win over Missouri in the Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl.

In five years at Wake Forest, Hartman saw on-field action during each season, winning the starting job as a freshman and throwing for 1,984 yards on 291 attempts for 16 touchdowns and only eight interceptions.

However, as a sophomore, Hartman battled injuries only amassing four appearances and tossing for four touchdowns before returning as a redshirt sophomore for nine games the next season and throwing for 2,224 yards which was ranked the 28th most nationally.

After fully securing the starting job in his fourth season in Winston-Salem, Hartman had a breakout campaign appearing in all 13 of the Demon Deacons games to throw for the most yards in program history with 4,228 on 299 completions and a dominant 39 touchdowns to just 14 interceptions.

Finally rounding out his time with Wake Forest, Hartman would manage a productive 3,701 passing yards and 38 touchdowns as he racked up the accolades including the 2022 Brian Piccolo Award, Third Team All-ACC honors, and finished as a finalist for both the Manning Award and the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award.

In his five seasons under head coach Dave Clawson, Hartman set an ACC record with 107 touchdown passes which also ranks him in the top-20 within FBS history.

Now entering the transfer portal, it’s been reported by multiple outlets including ESPN, CBS Sports, and SB Nation, that Hartman is expected to join Notre Dame ahead of the 2023 season with Drew Pyne leaving for Arizona State.

With a nationally recognized QB potentially on the way to South Bend, could Hartman be the addition that sees the Fighting Irish return to the College Football Playoffs?
