Ranking College Basketball’s Top 40 Transfers Entering Conference Play

All offseason long, the college hoops world watched the transfer portal explode with talent, ranging from conference players of the year to walk-ons looking for new homes out of the portal.

1. JAKE STEPHENS, CHATTANOOGA

Stephens, a 7-footer, has posted elite numbers so far this year, averaging 21.5 points and 10.3 rebounds per game for the Mocs.

2. KJ WILLIAMS, LSU

Williams, a 6-foot-10 senior, is scoring 19.3 points and grabbing 8.3 boards per game for the Tigers. The Murray State transfer is shooting 56% from the field.

T-3. KENDRIC DAVIS, MEMPHIS

Last season’s AAC Player of the Year with SMU, Davis has continued his stellar offensive production under Penny Hardaway. He is currently shooting 39% from the field and averaging more than 19 points and five assists per game.

T-3 BRANDIN PODZIEMSKI – SANTA CLARA

Podziemski, an Illinois transfer, is having a stellar year on the West Coast, averaging more than 18 points and eight boards per game. The sharpshooter has hit more than 37% of his three-point attempts, including 42% of his tries from deep at home.

5. TERRENCE SHANNON JR – ILLINOIS

Shannon, a Texas Tech transfer, is averaging 18.2 points and 5.6 rebounds this year, while shooting 46% from the field so far.

6. BLAKE HINSON, PITT

Hinson has led the Panthers to a 9-4 start, averaging a team-high 17.2 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. The former Ole Miss Rebel transferred to Iowa State, but never saw the floor with the Cyclones. After two seasons away from college hoops, Hinson has been elite for Pitt.

7. BRYCE HOPKINS, PROVIDENCE

Hopkins, a 6-foot-7 Kentucky transfer, is leading the Friars with 16.7 points and 9.7 boards per game.

8. KEYONTAE JOHNSON, KANSAS STATE

Johnson is one of the best stories in college hoops this year. He’s having a huge year for the ‘Cats, averaging 17.7 points and 6.8 rebounds for Jerome Tang’s squad.

T-9.  SOULEY BOUM – XAVIER

Boum has had a stellar year for the Musketeers, averaging 17 points and 4.6 assists per game.

T-9. TYREE APPLEBY, WAKE FOREST

Appelby has been one of the most exciting transfers in the ACC, averaging 18 points and 5+ assists per game. 50% from the field is not too shabby, either.

11. KEION BROOKS, WASHINGTON

Brooks, a former Kentucky Wildcat, is scoring more than 16 points per game this season while also grabbing more than six rebounds a game.

12. RICKY COUNCIL IV, ARKANSAS

Council is averaging 18+ points and shooting over 50% from the field so far for the ‘Hogs.

T-13. GRANT SHERFIELD, OKLAHOMA

Sherfield has been one of the best outside shooters in the country this year, shooting 57% from three-point range and averaging 18 points per contest.

T-13 SAM SESSOMS – COPPIN STATE

Sessoms is a top-five scorer in college hoops, averaging more than 23 points per game. The six-foot guard is also averaging more than five assists and is shooting over 53% from the field.

15. EMONI BATES, EASTERN MICHIGAN

Bates, a Memphis transfer, is starring for the Eagles so far this year, averaging 19.4 points and 5.7 rebounds per game.

16. D’MOI HODGE, MIZZOU

Hodge is leading the Tigers with 16.7 points and 4.1 rebounds per game on top of 52% from the field.

17. JARKEL JOINER, NC STATE

Joiner, an Ole Miss transfer, is averaging 16+ points and 4.1 rebounds per contest for the Pack.

18. DAE DAE GRANT, DUQUESNE

Grant is averaging 17.9 points and shooting 43% from the field for the 10-3 Dukes.

19. DAVID JONES, ST JOHN’S

Jones, a DePaul transfer, is scoring almost 15 points per game this year and grabbing more than seven boards per game for the Johnnies.

20.  MORRIS UDEZE, NEW MEXICO

Udeze is averaging more than 17 points and seven boards for the Lobos.

21. PRIMO SPEARS, GEORGETOWN

17.7 points and 4.5 assists per game for the Duquesne transfer.

22. ERIK STEVENSON, WEST VIRGINIA

Stevenson is averaging more than 14 points per game while shooting 53% from the field for the Mountaineers.

23. JOHNI BROOME, AUBURN

Broome has been a consistent force for Auburn when he has been on the floor (just 23.7 mpg), averaging 12.2 points and 8.2 rebounds per game for the Tigers.

24. NORCHAD OMIER, MIAMI

Omier, a 6-foot-7 forward, has the Hurricanes off to a strong 12-1 start. He is averaging 13.5 points and 9.8 rebounds per game so far.

25. BAYLOR SCHEIERMAN, CREIGHTON

Scheierman is shooting 39% from deep this season, and has been one of the best rebounding wings in the game. He is currently averaging 12.9 points and 9.6 rebounds per game for the ‘Jays.

26. BRANDON MURRAY, GEORGETOWN

Despite GTown’s struggles, Murray has led the way with a strong year at 14 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game.

27. DAWSON GARCIA, MINNESOTA

The former Marquette and North Carolina forward is averaging more than 14 points and five rebounds per game for the Gophers.

28. MANNY BATES, BUTLER

Bates is shooting 63% from the field, ranking him in the top-25 in the nation in FG%. He’s averaging 13.5 points and 6.3 boards per game.

29. DARYL BANKS III, ST. BONAVENTURE

Banks is averaging 15.6 points per game while shooting 37% from beyond the arch.

30. JAROD LUCAS, NEVADA

Lucas is posting averages of 16.8 points and 2.2 rebounds this season for the Wolf Pack.

31. UMOJA GIBSON, DEPAUL

Gibson, a 6-foot-1 guard, is averaging more than 14 points and 5.2 assists per game for the Blue Demons.

32. MARK SEARS, ALABAMA

Sears, an Ohio transfer, is shooting 43% from the field and 42% from three-point range so far this year, averaging 14 points per contest.

33. GRANT BASILE, VIRGINIA TECH

Basile is averaging 13.9 points per game this year on 52% from the field and 40% from three-point range.

34. JAHMIR YOUNG, MARYLAND

Young, a 6-foot-1 guard, is averaging 14.4 points per game for the 9-3 Terps.

35. KEVIN MCCULLAR, KANSAS

McCullar is once again having a strong season in the Big 12, this time for the Jayhawks. He is currently averaging 11.9 points and 7.9 rebounds per game, and shooting a career-best 33% from three.

36. EARL TIMBERLAKE, BRYANT

Timberlake is averaging more than 15 points and seven rebounds for the Bulldogs this season.

37. LANDERS NOLLEY, CINCINNATI

Nolley is shooting 41% from three-point land this year and averaging 14.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.

38. TERRY ROBERTS, GEORGIA

Roberts has made the transition up to the SEC look smooth, averaging 13.8 points, four rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game so far.

39. DARIN GREEN JR, FLORIDA STATE

Green is shooting 43% from the field to go along with 13.7 points per game.

40. TRE MITCHELL, WEST VIRGINIA

Mitchell is scoring more than 12 points per game while grabbing almost five boards per game for Huggins’ squad.
