It’s been more than five years since a YouTube video titled “#1 8th Grader in the NATION” was released profiling Ismail Mahdi.

But college football fans, it is now time to start paying attention to what is going on at Texas State. Mahdi, a 5-foot-9 transfer running back, is the number one player in the country in terms of all-purpose yards at the moment.

The Bobcats are 4-1 and have one of the best players in college football on their team. The Houston Christian transfer is currently leading the nation in all-purpose yards with 934 already. On Saturday, he opened Texas State’s last game with a 100-yard kick return touchdown. Mahdi also ran for 89 yards and scored three rushing touchdowns in the Bobcats’ win, improving the team’s record to 4-1 with its third-straight victory.

Mahdi has had at least 75 rushing yards and one touchdown in four out of his team’s five games this season, with his best performance coming weeks ago against Nevada (216 rushing yards, 2 Rush TD).

GJ Kinne certainly hit the jackpot with several of his transfer additions this year, including quarterback TJ Finley (Auburn) who put up 300+ yards with multiple touchdowns yet again. However, with the addition of Mahdi out of the portal, Kinne proved that he and his staff could recruit one of the nation’s most electrifying players to Texas State.
