Heavy Hitters of the Week: Highlighting the Best Tacklers in CFB

Louisville, Texas State and Colorado have all looked to transfers to make huge impacts on both sides of the ball throughout the first six weeks of the college football season.

Let’s check out the top performances from those three defenses this past week.

DEVIN NEAL – LOUISVILLE

Neal intercepted Notre Dame quarterback Sam Hartman twice in Louisville’s massive win over the tenth-ranked Irish. He also racked up a transfer-best eight tackles on the week.

Neal’s performance earned him ACC DB of the Week honors!

 

KALEB CULP – TEXAS STATE

This past weekend, in a tight game against Louisiana, Bobcats’ safety Kaleb Culp continued a hot start to the season, leading all transfer players with eight tackles. Culp had seven solo tackles on the night.

Culp now has 23 tackles on the year in addition to his impressive three fumble recoveries and three passes defended. Last year, he set career highs with 81 tackles and two forced fumbles.

RODRICK WARD – COLORADO

Ward a safety who transferred in from Southern Utah, had eight tackles this week as well, tying for first among all transfers with Culp. Ward had four solo tackles and one TFL this week in Colorado’s conference win over Arizona State.

On the year, he has 20 tackles overall and 12 solo.

 

In addition to Culp and Ward, other transfers with big weeks on the defensive end include Jeslord Boateng, Jireh Wilson, Josh DeBerry, Omarion Cooper, Prince Dorbah, Shawn Holton, Tate Hallock, Tate Romney, Walter Reynolds, and others.
