With the sixth week of the 2023 college basketball season now well underway, here’s a look at TPR’s top 10 transfers so far this season and how each of them has been able to impact their new program.
1.) Hunter Dickinson – Kansas
Averaging 19.4 PPG and 12.6 RPG, the Michigan transfer has led the Jayhawks to a 9-1 start with 15 points and 9 rebounds against UConn after 17 points and 20 boards to help defeat Tennessee at a neutral site.
2.) Great Osobor – Utah State
Despite some offseason transition, the Aggies are off to a 9-1 start after appearing in last season’s NCAA Tournament. Led by 19.5 PPG, 9.1 RPG, and 2 BKPG from Osobor, the program has secured recent upset wins over Marshall, Akron, Saint Louis, and San Diego.
3.) Jonathan Mogbo – San Francisco
The former JUCO and now Missouri State transfer has been critical to a 7-3 record for this rebuilt Dons team, averaging 14.7 PPG, 10.5 RPG, 3.6 APG, and 1.7 STLPG, including 23 points and 16 rebounds in a recent tight loss to Arizona State.
4.) Tyon Grant-Foster – Grand Canyon
The Antelopes sit 9-1 and it’s primarily due to the former Kansas and DePaul transfer who’s averaging 21.3 PPG and 6.3 RPG as the team’s leading scorer, pushing GCU to a current five game win streak.
5.) Allen Flanigan – Ole Miss
The interconference transfer who arrived from Auburn this offseason has the Rebels sitting just outside the AP Top 25 rankings at 9-0 with Flanigan averaging 18 PPG, 6.9 RPG, and 2.2 APG for Chris Beard’s restructured squad.
6.) DeMarcus Sharp – Austin Peay
While the Governors have battled to just a 5-6 start, Sharp has been the main scorer as new head coach Corey Gipson looks to put his imprint on the program, leading with 19.1 PPG, 7.7 RPG, 5 APG, and 2.6 STLPG.
7.) Shahada Wells – McNeese State
Recently leading back-to-back upsets of UAB and UT-Martin, the former TCU Horned Frog is averaging 19.1 PPG, 4.1 RPG, and 3.3 APG with the Cowboys managing an 8-2 record behind new head coach Will Wade.
8.) Jamarii Thomas – Norfolk State
With the Spartans fighting for a competitive 7-3 record through the first weeks of the season, the UNC Wilmington transfer has taken over offensively averaging 19.2 PPG and 4 APG which includes a recent 31-point performance against Illinois State.
9.) Saint Thomas – Northern Colorado
Despite struggling to get minutes last season at Loyola-Chicago, Thomas has exploded onto the scene for the 4-5 Bears, averaging a team-leading 17.2 PPG and 10.4 RPG while dropping 31 points and 7 rebounds against CSU Northridge last week.
10.) David Jones – Memphis
Following stints at DePaul and St. John’s, Jones has continued to find success by leading the Tigers to a strong 7-2 record while averaging a career-best 20.1 PPG and 2.4 STLPG which included 29 points and 7 boards against Texas A&M.
