Memphis Tigers

Four transfers lead the way in scoring for Penny Hardaway this season. Memphis dominated Charlotte Wednesday night in a 76-52 win. Charlotte ranked second in the conference entering last night’s matchup. With the win, Memphis skyrocketed from 89 to 82 in the NET rankings.

Alabama transfer Jahvon Quinerly led the way for the Tigers. A consistent, reliable presence in the backcourt for Coach Hardaway, Quinerly scored 17 and dished out six dimes in the win. David Jones had a relatively quiet game with just ten points; however, he’s dominating in his first season at Memphis.

Jones transferred from DePaul to Saint John’s in 2022. He averaged just over 14 in his last season at DePaul and about the same at Saint John’s. Jones has scored over 20 a whopping sixteen times this season and went for over 30 in three games.

Joining Jones and Quinerly are forwards Nae’Qwan Tomlin (Kansas State) and Jaykwon Walton (Georgia, Wichita State). The Tigers continue to inch closer to that No.77 in the NET rankings. Rutgers made history with the lowest NET ranking to make the tournament at 77. However, Memphis suffers in Average Opponent NET, sitting at 137 compared to 115 for 2022 Rutgers.

Memphis finds themselves in a spot where they control their own destiny. Two Quad one matchups with FAU lie ahead for the Tigers. Memphis may need victories in both and a deep run in the conference tournament for a chance at an at-large bid.
