Championship Notes: Transfers to Watch in Saturday’s Title Games

ACC Championship, 8:00 EST-ABC: No.17 Clemson vs No.8 SMU (-2.5) 

The SMU Mustangs defeated Tulane 26-14 in the American Athletic Conference Championship game just over a year ago.  

Now, they prepare for perennial ACC title winner, Dabo Swinney and Clemson. 

In some eyes, the Mustangs own a distinct advantage, the use of the transfer portal. 

For Swinney, the culture he set that led to two national championships and four national title game appearances will remain steadfast, one that does not involve pulling players from the portal. 

However, it is tough to deny the talent Swinney and the Tigers are missing out on in the portal. 

SMU’s top rusher, Brashard Smith, transferred from Miami following the conclusion of the 2023 season. The senior tallied 1,157 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns in the regular season, including a 71-yard house call in a 48-25 win over Pitt. 

Another Miami transfer, Jahfari Harvey, racked up 26 tackles and 6.5 sacks in the regular season. 

Swinney has eight ACC titles under his belt. They’ll get everything Coach Lashlee’s Mustangs have and more with a playoff spot on the line Saturday night.
