The Mid-Major programs dominated the transfer portal today with several former top-100 prospects committing to Radford and Chicago State and both Temple and San Diego State receiving official returns from some big names. Commitments
Former top-100 prospect Elijah Weaver has announced he will transfer for a second time and head to Chicago State following two years each with USC and Dayton. The 6-foot-6 guard averaged 6.6 PPG, 1.2 RPG, and 1.6 APG with the Flyers last season and will be the second transfer pickup for the Cougars this week also adding Samford’s Wesley Cardet, a former top-100 prospect who will form a backcourt pair with Weaver.
Another former top-100 prospect is off the board as Villanova’s Bryan Antoine will be joining Radford with two years of eligibility remaining after three seasons in the Big East with the Wildcats. While never a starter for Villanova, Antoine made 46 career appearances for the program and averaged 1.5 PPG, 1.2 RPG, and .5 APG while also dealing with injuries throughout his time in Pennsylvania.
Standout JUCO transfer Lavell Brodnex is reportedly set to sign for first-year Wagner head coach Donald Copeland with three years of eligibility left at the Division I level following time with Murray State College in Oklahoma. Brodnex averaged 14.3 PPG, 4.1 RPG, and 1.9 APG playing both as a guard and forward, is an athletic playmaker who can score in bulk, and is a strong defender.
Returnees
According to his father, Temple’s Khalif Battle will be withdrawing his name from the 2022 NBA Draft and returning to Philadelphia for his senior season. Battle; who spent one season at Butler before transferring to Temple for his previous two, averaged 21.4 PPG and 3.9 RPG before a season-ending foot injury sidelines him just seven games in but is a 2020-21 All-AAC selection and will be a huge returnee for the Owls.
2021-22 MWC Defensive Player of the Year Nathan Mensah will also be removing his name from 2022 NBA Draft contention and returning to San Diego State in what already looks to be another outstanding Aztecs roster ahead of next season. Helping San Diego State to the NCAA Tournament, Mensah averaged 7 PPG, 6.9 RPG, and 2.2 BKPG while starting all 32 games for head coach Brain Dutcher from a season ago.
